FAQs

The way we work is that we provide you with a loan to purchase an item from a supplier on our website. We pay the supplier on your behalf with the loan that you have taken from us, so you own the goods from the outset. You have bought it and it isn’t rented. Your payments come back to us on a schedule that suits you in weekly or monthly instalments.

We also have a video guide on how it works on our website, hope this helps.

Fair for You will carry out affordability checks including a credit check. If you are already struggling to repay credit, you are unlikely to be able to borrow from Fair For You and should take debt advice. Fair For You will verify the information you are providing and may ask you to photograph supporting information and email it to us. You can check you loan eligibility on our website.

Alternatively contact Money Advice Service or Turn2Us for debt advice.

You choose how much you want to pay in flexible weekly, monthly or fortnightly instalments to suit your budget. On every item, you will see the retail price that the supplier has set. All that is then added is the interest which is 3.5% per month. & the quicker you pay, the less interest you pay overall.

To see approximately how much it comes to in total, you can use our Loan Calculator here.

We do credit check every time we consider a loan application, but our decision isn’t only based on credit. We like to look more at what kind of payer you are. If you are currently struggling with credit you are unlikely to be able to borrow from Fair for You.

As a responsible lender, we always want to help our customers to buy the things they need, and we always want to say yes if we can. You can check your eligibility for a loan here.

Fair for You is a responsible lender. We always want to help our customers to buy the things they need. We will check every loan for affordability each time you apply.

We will agree second loans where we can see you can afford the payments, and may ask for your bank statements to prove this. It is rare for us to consider a second loan just after you have had a loan, and we will often want to see that you have repaid at least 1/3 of your loan.

We have a legal obligation to retain the right to decline any loan where we cannot see you can afford the repayments.

We always check your credit file and the most usual reason for us to decline a loan is because that has information that suggests you may be struggling with current credit commitments. You may wish to check this out at www.noddle.co.uk. If you feel we have made a mistake just appeal the decision by emailing back to the loans team and asking them to review.

Fair for You operates a responsible lending policy and we will always try to help if we can.

You may be eligible to appeal a Decline decision if:

  • You are paying your current credit ok; and
  • You can afford to keep paying that and your new loan

If you believe this is the case, please reply to your decline email (or send an email to loans@fairforyou.co.uk) letting us know you would like to appeal the decision adding any extra information that you feel is relevant and will help your application.

We don’t mind your source of income so long as you have a stable, regular income and a bank account you can make your repayments from, you’re eligible to apply.

All of our example payments are shown over a period of 52 weeks, but we can set the payments to suit your budget. Check our loan calculator to check whether you can afford the loan.

You can overpay your loan at any time, which will pay your loan off earlier, and with less interest. If you do this, so long as your over-payments cover your regular instalment, you can skip a payment. This is because at Fair For You we understand that most families are under pressure for special occasions such as Christmas or Birthdays, and will need more flexibility with repayments.

We strongly recommend every home should have contents insurance, but we won’t make you buy it.

Yes you can. Every item has the manufacturers standard one year warranty. Our retailers will have an extended warranty if you want it. If you wish to extend this warranty then you may do so.  The choice is yours – not ours.

You can view how much you owe at any time by registering for an online statement. Our service centre is open from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm on Saturday & Sunday to answer any questions.

You are invited into the Good Payers Club once we see 6 months of good repayment on your loan or once you have cleared a loan with us that you’ve held for at least 4 months.

From our Fair for You homepage, you will be able to visit the suppliers’ websites.

Choose your item(s) and apply for a loan. You will hear from us within a day. If we are not confident you can afford the payments, we will ask you for your recent bank statements, especially for larger loans.

We also have a video guide on how to apply here

We provide loans to buy items chosen from our online high street. The loans are paid directly to your chosen supplier on your behalf, and you have bought the goods direct from the supplier.
We do not provide cash loans.

Check with your debt management company if they will allow this. We will need their agreement and they must manage the repayment.

Advertising credit isn’t as simple as comparing interest rates. Check our website for why we are different. We always recommend you compare the full price you will need to pay. We try to quote this very clearly as we think it is important for you to be able to compare the full cost.

Installation is included in the basic prices given on the website and in the brochure, but can be removed at check out if you don’t need the service. Installation is available on free standing appliances only. Delivery is included in the retailers price. Delivery covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Free removal of your old item is available on some items but must be selected at checkout.

You can always apply again later, we won’t hold that against you.

We don’t want to put extra stress on you and your family if you can’t afford to repay the loan. So we will redirect you to our partners at Turn2Us,  a support service relieving hardship through providing grants, and a benefit checker that could help you find the monetary help you need to buy what you want from us.

1. Why do you ask for my internet-banking details?

By inputting your details we are able to view up to 90 days of bank account history. This helps us make our lending decisions, assessing whether and if so what amount of credit is affordable and sustainable for you. As a responsible lender, we work with credit reference agencies to review your creditworthiness. As part of that process it is important for us to verify your incomings and outgoings. Ultimately, this will help us ensure that you do not fall in difficulties in making the repayments due under a loan or incurring further costs and charges. We are only permitted a read- only access to your current account, so will only ever be able to view the recent transactions on your account – nothing more. Your bank details are encrypted in transit and stored securely by our credit reference agency and its services providers. We do not have the ability to change any of your banking details, set up standing orders/direct debits or to manage your account in any other way. All data is securely handled in accordance with data protection laws and our privacy policy.

2. Who sees my internet banking log-in details?

No person can access your internet banking details. When you enter your banking credentials on our website they are securely transmitted. The encrypted details are then passed by our credit reference agency, Perfect Data Solutions Limited and associated service providers. They are stored in a highly secure data centre which has a single use, which is to generate a read-only data-feed which we will use to assess the affordability of the loan.

3. What happens to my internet banking details after input them on your website?

As an organisation, security of data and prevention of fraud are fundamental to us. We are committed to using practices to ensure that our services are provided within a secure environment. Your internet banking details are encrypted and held securely by our professional service providers. Our credit reference agency partner, Perfect Data Solutions Limited and us, are permitted read-only access to your current account, so will only ever be able to view your account. We do not have the ability to change any of your banking details or set up standing orders/direct debits. All data is securely handled in accordance with data protection laws and our privacy policy.

4. What happens to the bank statements you obtain?

They will be used to make lending decisions about you and stored by us as long as necessary to assist us in managing your account or underwriting loan to you. It will be stored by Perfect Data Solutions Limited, which is a credit reference agency, as part of your credit record. This means that anyone who accesses your credit record in future will be provided with a credit score which is based on all the information held about you including your banking history.

5. What will my bank say about me inputting my log-in details into your website?

We would recommend that you review the Terms and Conditions of your internet banking provider. Before you decide to submit your banking credentials, we would stress that security is of paramount importance, we would especially mention that:

  •   Your data is encrypted in transit;
  •   We do not have any functionality over your bank account; and
  •   We only have access to a read only service.
